Explore potential business tax benefits with Section 179.
$32,000
2026 heavy-SUV Section 179 cap
More than 50%
Qualified business use required
How it works
Section 179 allows eligible businesses to deduct some or all of the cost of qualifying property in the year it is placed in service, rather than depreciating
the cost over several years.
For qualifying heavy SUVs with a GVWR above 6,000 lbs. and no more than 14,000 lbs., the 2026 Section 179 vehicle deduction is capped at $32,000. The vehicle must be used more than 50% for qualified business purposes.
How much could you deduct?
Illustrative example: A qualifying $90,000 Land Rover used 80% for business.
| Deduction Breakdown | Amount |
| Vehicle Purchase Price | $90,000 |
| Qualified Business Use | 80% |
| Eligible Business-Use Basis | $72,000 |
| Section 179 Deduction (if fully allowed) | $32,000 |
| Total Potential First-Year Federal Deduction | $72,000 |
Potential deduction: $72,000. A deduction reduces taxable income, not taxes owed dollar for dollar.
